Yes, we remove cavity wall insulation from homes in Huyton and the wider L36 area. Most jobs here involve post-war brick semis and short terraces where blown fibre or polystyrene beads have got wet, slumped or bridged the gap. We check the cavity with a borescope first, then extract the fill only if the evidence says it is the cause of the damp.
What kind of houses do we see in Huyton?
Huyton grew enormously after the Second World War, when large estates were built to rehouse families from inner Liverpool. That means a big share of local homes are brick-built semis and terraces from the late 1940s through to the 1970s, nearly all with a cavity between two leaves of masonry. Plenty of them were later filled during council and housing-association improvement programmes, and many have since passed into private ownership through right-to-buy.
There are also older pockets near the village centre and newer private developments on the edges. A few post-war homes in the borough were put up using non-traditional methods, so part of our first conversation is simply establishing how your walls are built. If a wall has no true cavity, extraction is the wrong answer and we will say so.
Why fill that worked for years suddenly causes damp
Owners in Huyton often tell us the insulation was fine for a decade or more and then the trouble started. That pattern is common. Pointing slowly erodes, gutters sag, a downpipe cracks or the outer brick becomes more porous with age. Once rain soaks through the outer leaf, mineral wool acts like a wick and carries moisture across to the inner block. Beads are less absorbent but can still channel water where mortar droppings or debris have formed a bridge.
The wall facing the prevailing south-westerly weather tends to suffer first. Look for patches at skirting height, around window reveals and in upstairs corners behind wardrobes.
Our process for a Huyton property
- Phone call. We ask about the house type, which rooms are affected, roughly when the walls were filled and whether you hold any paperwork.
- Visit and survey. A small hole lets us look inside with a borescope. We take moisture readings on the inside face and look hard at gutters, pointing and sills.
- Straight answer. If the fill is wet, compacted or bridging, we put that in writing with a quote. If the problem is condensation or a leaking gutter, we tell you that instead.
- Extraction. Bricks come out at intervals, the material is vacuumed and blown free, and rubble is cleared from the base of the cavity.
- Final check and report. Another borescope pass confirms the cavity is clear, bricks are rebuilt and you get photos for your records.
Our cavity wall inspection page explains the survey stage in more detail, and if your main worry is a wet patch spreading across a bedroom wall, read about damp after cavity insulation.
Should the cavity be refilled afterwards?
Not straight away. The walls need to dry out first and whatever let the water in must be put right. After that, some Huyton owners choose to leave the cavity empty, while others want the warmth back and go for a material better suited to an exposed wall. We cover the choices on our refilling after removal page.
If your property is rented from a housing association, speak to the landlord before arranging any work on the walls.
We are a cavity wall insulation removal team covering Knowsley and the rest of the city region, and we regularly travel between Huyton, Prescot and Kirkby. For the bigger picture of how removal works, see our main page on specialist cavity insulation extraction.

Frequently asked questions
Were most Huyton council houses filled under a grant scheme?
A great many homes in Knowsley were insulated through energy-efficiency and grant schemes, including houses owned by housing associations and later bought by tenants. If you bought your home, the previous owner or landlord may hold the paperwork. A CIGA registration check can often confirm whether and when the walls were filled.
I rent from a housing association in Huyton. Can I book removal myself?
The walls belong to your landlord, so any extraction needs their agreement. The best first step is to report the damp to them in writing. We are happy to talk to a landlord or their surveyor about what an inspection involves, and the findings would be written up so they can be shared.
My Huyton semi has a pebble-dashed front. Does that change anything?
It can. Render and pebble-dash hide the brick, so we cannot simply lift bricks at the face without cutting through the coating. Where that applies we usually work from rear or side elevations if they are bare brick, or plan careful patch repairs to the finish. We explain the options before any work is agreed.
How soon after extraction will the damp patch in my bedroom go?
There is no fixed timescale. The plaster and blockwork have to dry out once the wet fill is gone and the cause of the water is fixed, which can take weeks or a few months depending on the weather and how saturated the wall was. Gentle heating and ventilation help; redecorating too early does not.
Do you also cover nearby parts of Knowsley like Roby and Page Moss?
Yes. We work across the L36 area and the rest of Knowsley, as well as neighbouring parts of Liverpool such as Childwall and West Derby. Give us a ring with your postcode and a short description of the problem and we will arrange a convenient time.
