We are a local specialist team dealing with one problem: cavity wall insulation that has gone wrong. We inspect, extract and advise on failed cavity insulation in homes across Liverpool and Merseyside, and we will tell you plainly when removal is not the answer.

What we do

Our work centres on cavity wall insulation removal across Liverpool and Merseyside. That covers taking out wet mineral wool, loose or bonded polystyrene beads and old foam fills, clearing debris from the cavity and checking the wall is clear afterwards. Around that, we offer borescope inspections of the cavity, investigations into damp that appeared after insulation went in, and advice on refilling the cavity once the wall has been repaired and has dried out.

Where we work

We cover Liverpool and the surrounding boroughs: Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens and the Wirral, plus Widnes. That takes in coastal towns that get the full force of wind-driven rain off the Irish Sea, the inter-war and post-war suburbs of south and east Liverpool, and the estate housing of the 1960s to 1990s found across Merseyside. The full list is on our areas we cover page.

Depending on location and the work needed, the job may be carried out by one of the independent local specialists we work with; we will always tell you who is coming.

How a job runs

It starts with a phone call. We ask about the house, which walls are affected, where the damp or cold patches are, when the insulation went in and whether there is any paperwork for it. If a visit makes sense, we look at the inside and outside of the property, take moisture readings and use a borescope through a small hole in a mortar joint to see the fill.

We then explain what we found and what the options are, and give a written quote if removal is the right step. On the day, bricks are taken out at intervals along the wall and the fill is removed by vacuum extraction. We check the cavity again with the borescope, rebuild the openings and match the pointing as closely as we practically can. You then get a written report with photos.

What to expect from us

  • Clear explanations in plain English, without jargon or pressure.
  • A written quote before any work starts, based on what we have actually seen.
  • Honest timescales. Most houses take one to a few days, but it depends on the material, how wet it is and access.
  • A tidy job, with debris cleared away at the end.
  • A written report describing the work and what we found.

An honest approach

Not every damp wall needs its insulation taken out. Condensation, leaking gutters, failed pointing and rising damp can all look similar to the untrained eye. If the evidence points somewhere other than the cavity fill, we will say so, because removing good insulation would leave you with a colder house and the same problem. Likewise, removal on its own is rarely the full answer: the source of the water needs fixing and the wall needs time to dry.

We also cannot promise how a guarantee provider, insurer or lender will respond to your situation. What we can do is describe accurately what is in your wall and what we did about it.
